Controversial Marketing

Electronic Arts (EA) is one of today's leading producers of quality video games. As of late though, this company has changed its business model to one that has dismayed members of the video gaming community. Why have they done this, and why does this have people in arms? Well, there are a couple things that could be the cause.

The Problem

Recently, with game releases of Dragon Age II and Dead Space 2 (most recent cases, but there are more from the past) EA has packaged their new games with codes that allow one to access online multi-player or bonus material, however these can only be used once. If you buy Dead Space 2 used and want to play online with friends, you must purchase an extra online multi-player pass for $10. Also, within a few weeks of the same games release, EA produced bonus add on material that debuted for $6.99. Many used game fans and some other gamers feel that this is a money grubbing ploy by EA, one that will make EA’s fat wallets even fatter. However when you look closer, you may see that this is not the only reason.
